Rejuve Data NFT: Enabling Health Data Sovereignty with the Data NFT (dNFT)


Welcome to a special article in which we will review the Data NFT (dNFT) token to be implemented following the release of the Longevity App.

The current healthcare data ecosystem exhibits stark imbalances. Large corporations readily monetize user data with little benefit going to the individuals who provided that valuable information.

Rejuve.AI is working to reform this inequitable system and shift value flows using blockchain technology and artificial intelligence. A core component powering this vision for a fair data economy is the Data NFT.

Cardano Catalyst — Fund 10, Rejuve.AI Proposal

To accelerate the development of the Rejuve Data NFT on the Cardano blockchain, the Rejuve team has applied for Cardano Catalyst Funding / FUND 10 with a proposal titled, “Aligning Incentives through Novel Social Value Token Models” in which the concept has been generalized to an AI model that measures a social value, in this case being the proportional contribution to products.

The Data NFT: Enabling Sovereignty, Control, and Fair Compensation

Every member contributing data or AI models to the Rejuve Network receives a unique Data NFT (dNFT) that serves multiple key functions:

Data NFT (dNFT): The dNFT is a distributed identity token — the user’s decentralized digital identity that is not dependent on or controlled by any centralized third party, enabling self sovereign identity. The dNFT will be associated with every data-contributing member of the Rejuve Network.

All users wanting to contribute data will be required to complete a single KYC process through SingularityNET partner Hedgetech.AI in the generation of their unique digital identity which will consist of the dNFT coupled to their RejuveID.

The dNFT contrasts with other NFTs in that it cannot itself be bought or sold. The dNFT keeps track of permissions to use to use data through a permission hash that hashes the requester’s RejuveID, a hash of the private data, and the product UID (Unique Identifier) to confirm that permission has been granted for the particular data to be used in particular products.

The dNFTs are general for all decentralized data economies in combination with the Product NFTs, which are tied to and distributed to the data owners (dNFTs) in proportion to their contribution to a generated product.

Selective Data Permissions: Data contributors retain fine-grained control over data sharing. They can decide which entities (researchers, companies etc.) get access to their health data, AI/data models or other intellectual property by signing permission contracts with their dNFT private keys. No external party can access user data without explicit approval granted on the blockchain via dNFT-authorized smart contracts.

Proportional Rewards: The dNFT transparently tracks all user contributions across the network. This lets Rejuve accurately reward users with RJV utility tokens proportional to the value their data generates whenever it leads to research insights, innovations or products. More data, higher-quality data, and data contributing more to discoveries results in greater rewards.

Data Portability: The decentralized identity token seamlessly links together a user’s data across research studies, and services. This facilitates synergistic aggregation and analysis of a user’s entire contribution while preventing siloing or platform lock-in. Users can freely share data without losing ownership by effectively creating individual data sharing smart contract agreements with other members of the Rejuve Network and its partners. This enables data owners to ‘contract out’ their data whilst simultaneously being able to keep track of their contributions for future returns.

Network Incentives: Possessing a dNFT unlocks exclusive opportunities only available to data contributors on the Rejuve Network. This includes clinical trials, advanced AI health insights, discounted health products, and more. These network benefits incentivize high-quality data sharing to further the platform’s longevity research goals.

The dNFT is implemented as a non-fungible token (NFT) on the blockchain, minted when a user completes one-time identity verification. It represents their unique and sovereign instance within the Rejuve ecosystem and aligns incentives to benefit all network participants while ensuring transparency, security, and retaining individual control over health data contributions.

Rejuve’s Architecture for Healthcare Data Sovereignty

RejuveID: The RejuveID is a blockchain identifier derived from each user’s Data NFT. It pseudonymously links together all of a user’s data contributions and activities across the network, while preserving privacy. The RejuveID allows accurately tracking the value of a user’s data contributions and connecting those contributions to proportional token rewards.

Data Commons: The Data Commons is a centralized database that securely stores members’ health data. User data is anonymized before storage to protect privacy. As decentralized storage solutions evolve to meet healthcare security standards, Rejuve will shift towards integrating blockchain-based data storage to enhance trust and auditability. For now, centralized infrastructure enables regulatory compliance.

Product NFT: When data from Data NFT holders generates scientific insights or leads to innovations like therapies, a Product NFT is created representing fractional ownership of that product. The Product NFT automates distribution of any revenue generated when the product is commercialized to all Data NFT holders who contributed data to developing that product. This connects data contributions to real-world compensation. A more in-depth look at this NFT will be provided when the time is nearer.

Longevity App: This mobile app is the primary interface for members to contribute health data to Rejuve in exchange for RJV token rewards. The app leverages the Data NFT to control data sharing permissions. Users can selectively authorize access by external parties like researchers to their information for specific purposes. All data interactions occur via dNFT-gated permissions.

Token Rewards: Data contributions made via the Longevity App and other channels are rewarded with RJV tokens — initially based on standardized remuneration rates and ultimately proportionally based on the value created. More high-quality data earns greater rewards. Earned RJV can be redeemed for health products, services, and other benefits. This incentive mechanism encourages ongoing data contributions.

Together, these components create a technical architecture that retains user control over data sharing while enabling transparent valuation, permissioned access, contribution tracking, automated compensation distribution, and data sovereignty. The Data NFT ties the ecosystem together securely and aligns incentives.

For individuals contributing health data

Get compensated for data contributions based on actual usage and impact, as recorded transparently on the blockchain. More high-quality data, especially data that leads to research innovations, results in greater proportional rewards in RJV tokens.

Maintain full sovereignty over health data sharing. No external entity can access user data without explicit permission granted via dNFT-signed smart contracts. Individuals retain complete control.

For researchers and model contributors

Get compensated for AI models and analysis tools based on their usage and impact on generating insights and innovations. More valuable models that contribute to breakthroughs earn higher rewards.

Retain ownership over models and can license usage via dNFT-gated permissions. This prevents unauthorized usage or IP loss.

Flexibly integrate models across services without silos or platform lock-in, as the dNFT links contributions across the decentralized network.

Access exclusive real-world health datasets to develop and validate models, which would otherwise be hard to obtain.

Participate in pioneering longevity studies and see models make a tangible impact on novel therapy development, while earning tokens.
